Simple care for tulips at home

Tulips continue growing after they are cut, which is why their stems bend and change direction in the vase. This movement is natural. Choose a clean vase that supports the lower half of the stems and use a modest amount of cool water.

Make a straight, clean cut at the base and remove leaves that would touch the water. Refresh the water daily rather than filling the vase to the top. If the tulips lean, wrap them loosely in paper, stand them in water for an hour, and then unwrap them once hydrated.

Quick tips

Use cool water

A shallow, fresh fill helps tender tulip stems remain firm.

Expect movement

Tulips grow and turn toward light even after being arranged.

Support a lean

Paper around the stems for one hour can help them drink upright.
